Dear Santa,
It goes without saying, but this year has been an emotional roller coaster. I’m not sure if Rudolph could have even navigated it all. So, I have a very, very 2020 Christmas List for you.
We have all had to handle much more than our brains and hearts could have ever imagined. On top of the normal joys and pains of a regular year; now a pandemic, in an election year. In the words of Michelle Tanner, how rude!
I’m not sure if you can help me with my list, but I’m hoping so. It does have some pretty big asks, but I figure if anyone can help us, it’s you Santa. So here it is, my Very 2020 Christmas List.
All I Want for Christmas is…
- to be able to cough or sneeze in public without worrying about being judged
- cuddles with my friend’s new babies
- to go to a concert and dance the night away
- to not have to ask “are we doing hugs?”
- an evening decorating Christmas cookies, drinking wine & laughing with friends
- people to trust each other to make the best decisions for themselves and not judge when it doesn’t look the same for them
- to go out without masks so we can smile at each other
- to sit at a bar and have a couple of cocktails
- for people to be able to politely disagree
- to not worry about the health of my loved ones
- a weekend getaway with my girlfriends
- to see small businesses survive and thrive
- to go on a European vacation or you know, any real vacation
- a hug from my best friends
- to not look at the news in fear of what could possibly come next (no, that isn’t a challenge to the universe)
- to go to Target for toilet paper and paper towels and actually be able to buy them
- for people to give each other more grace and understanding
- to see my cousins, aunts, uncles, and other loved ones during the holidays like normal
- to do things with people without having to be outside
- a day with my loved ones who left this world too soon
- to go to the grocery store and not look for antibacterial products
- to never again get three save the dates for the same wedding or for couples to have to make those decisions
- any reason to dress up and get out of the house
- just a day, enjoying friends company, without a mask, without worries of getting sick, just being out and about or at home on the couch, doing life, 2019 style
Alright Santa, that is my very 2020 Christmas List. I’m not sure if you can make any of this happen, but any help would be appreciated. I promise I’m on the nice list too. Granted, 2020 didn’t give me much of an opportunity to be on the naughty list.
If not, a tie dye lounge set, hand sanitizer that doesn’t smell like cheap booze and a sourdough starter will do. Thanks Santa!
Xo, Tracy
